Decimated by hunting, white rhinos nearly became extinct with only about 100 surviving in the wild. Recovery of Africa’s white rhino demonstrates the benefits of strong law enforcement and conservation management. Black rhinos went extinct in many range states, and by 1992, only 2,300 individuals survived in seven countries.īut while rhinos continue to be killed for their horns, increased security and greater anti-poaching efforts have led to increases in some populations over the past decade. Sumatran rhinos have decreased by 50 percent in the past 18 years leaving fewer than 200 surviving, primarily in Indonesia and Malaysia. Before 1900, black rhinos occurred throughout most of sub-Saharan Africa, but between 19, rhino populations declined 96%. Wild rhinos can still be found in parts of Asia and Africa, but they live in small fragmented populations which may not be viable (due to lack of breeding opportunities and risk of random events or disease). The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies rhinos in its Red List of Threatened Species from Critically Endangered to Near Threatened. The illegal trade in animal parts is a profitable business and the demand for these products creates an ongoing temptation for poachers. Rhino horns are also carved for dagger handles as a coveted status symbol in the Middle East. Rhino horns are used in Asian medicines, which are sold to consumers who believe these animal products can be used to treat fever, rheumatism, and gout, or even to cure cancer. Unfortunately, these same qualities make them popular targets rhino horn is in high demand on the global black market. There were hundreds of thousands of northern white rhinos roaming in East and Central Africa, but civil war and years of poaching brought its populations to near extinction.Īnadolu Agency website contains only a portion of the news stories offered to subscribers in the AA News Broadcasting System (HAS), and in summarized form. The team working to save the nearly extinct rhinos includes Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (Leibniz-IZW), Safari Park Dvůr Králové, Kenya Wildlife Service, Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Avantea. The conservancy said this is the most successful series of procedures – from oocyte collection in Kenya to in vitro fertilization and cryopreservation in Italy. We are eager to get the progeny from the project that will guarantee survival of the species.” With nine pure northern white rhino embryos now developed, the partners in the project should embark on the next phase of the project – embryo transfer to the surrogate southern white females at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. “We are excited with the laboratory outcome of the last ovum pick-up in March. Kenya’s Tourism and Wildlife Minister Najib Balala said in a statement that with nine embryos successfully developed, it was time that scientists moved on to the next phase to use surrogate rhinos to develop a herd of northern white rhinos. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy on Thursday said: “The international consortium of scientists and conservationists working towards preventing the extinction of the northern white rhino through advanced assisted reproduction technologies is pleased to announce that in March and April 2021, four additional northern white rhino embryos were produced.” Scientists, who had stored Sudan’s sperm, have been working hard to develop embryos which they plan to use on surrogate female southern white rhinos multiple times to create a herd of pure northern white rhinos which will be reintegrated into the wild. Sudan, the last male northern white rhino, died in 2018 in Kenya leaving behind only two infertile females. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya on Thursday announced that four new embryos of the nearly extinct northern white rhinos had been developed, promising the endangered animal a new lease on life.

I tried my Switch Pro controller and that was the only real missing piece of the experience. Otherwise it doesn't really matter which controller you get I think. If you use a non-Steam Controller the main thing you may miss out on is the touchpad which does make aiming and general mouse use a bit easier than other controllers, especially if you combine it with gryo aiming. Both just require one button to do most things in the game, so either one will be fine to use. The controller I would say is better, although the climbing in AC games is always clunky (jumping off a building when you want to climb up). Fortunately you can still use it wired, but it is a joy to use my Switch Pro wireless controller without worrying about batteries or a cable. I have played Assassins Creed on Xbox and PC, they both feel fine. Why Valve went that route I'll never guess. Steam Controller is not a bad choice, the main problem I have with it is it does not have a rechargeable battery pack and instead takes AA batteries. If you have an existing controller already from a supported console, I recommend going that route since it's free. Valve has been doing a lot of great work on Steam controller support so you can use your Steam, XBox, PS4, or Switch Pro controller (I am not sure about joycons as I have not tried them). But as I grew up to be more mature, I stopped watching it and switched to real sport like boxing. I was always hyped when I saw Rey Mysterio and Rob Van Damme on the ring. Anyway, I used to watch WWE when I was a teenager. Besides, what thing in the TV that you watch that isn't fake? Everything in the TV is fake." Well, that was unexpected. His answer, in short, is like "Yes, it's fake but it's entertaining and fun to watch. Well, then I found a quite an interesting page written by an adult (I wouldn't have bothered reading it if it had been written by a teenager who watches WWE just for the heck of it). They all know that the fighting is choreographed and the talking is scripted, yet they still come to watch it. So some time ago, I tried to look on Google about why there are still so many people watching WWE when they know that all the fighting, talking, and arguing are fake. |
